By Peggy Western Fraternal Life Association was founded on the principles of mutual aid, to associate its members and enable them to support each other and their communities. In this spirit, the Home Office staff had a busy week this week volunteering in the community. Below are three activities that we participated in.
Our annual Christmas caroling at Manor Care happened Tuesday, December 17th at 2:45pm. Many Home Office staff wore Santa hats and sang Christmas carols with joy! The residents really enjoy our visits, especially when we bring Santa along! Staff members also walked the halls, singing carols. What a nice tradition of bringing Christmas joy to people in our community!
In the spirit of Christmas, the Home Office collected food items for a family of 5. All items were donated by today, December 20th with the goal of delivering the food basket to the family on December 21st. What a blessing to be able to provide a family with food for the holidays!
The Title 1 program at Grant School held their annual book wrapping event today, December 20th at 10am. Grant School provides a free book to each of their 400 students. WFLA provides the wrapping paper, bookmarks and volunteers! The students love the care and attention we provide their books! Many of the children say they are giving the gifts to their siblings. What a joy it is to see their appreciative faces!
Not only does the Home Office staff donate their time, talents, and resources to these activities hosted by the home office, many also actively participate in their lodges. This year, they have done ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, adopting needy families for the holidays, doing free gift wrapping at a store, helping out at Big Brother Big Sister events, etc.
This time of year is meant for giving, a time when people remember the importance of giving back to the community and volunteering to help those in need. WFLA takes pride in not only the services it provides throughout the year but also the additional volunteering it does during the holiday season.
From our family to yours – have a very Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year!
